Last night, the Penguins almost went a second straight game without a goal. Instead, Malkin buried his tenth of the year to send the game to OT, then a shootout, and the Pens lost 2-1 to Tampa. It was an extremely entertaining game to attend despite the lack of offense. The Pens played a really good defensive game despite Karlsson being out week-to-week. Yaddy yadda…
The real talking point from the game was the fact Sidney Crosby made the greatest pass I have ever witnessed in person. Legitimately, I have not stopped thinking about it since it happened. With a few minutes remaining in OT, Crosby near his defensive zone faceoff dot rifled a BACKHAND pass directly to Rust’s tape for a breakaway. Had Rust scored on said breakaway it would have been a highlight shown for years. It left me completely awestruck. I wasn’t even slightly upset about the Penguins dropping yet another shootout because all my brain could do was think about that pass.
Somehow, not a single soul posted the pass anywhere on twitter. Luckily, I have linked the NHL’s official game recap here which includes the play around the 2 minute 50 second mark of the video.
Next up for the Penguins are none other than the biggest scumbag organization, fan base, and player base in the entire league the Philadelphia Flyers. Speaking of the Flyers, their fans are setting X, the everything app, ablaze defending Matvei Michkov. I can understand the reason, they have been a joke since 1975 and he was supposed to be the savior. Turns out he’s a bust and they cannot, and possibly will not, accept the harsh reality of the situation. Kevin Kurtz of The Athletic wrote an article about his struggles which put more fuel on the fire. Almost impossible to think that a guy who notoriously doesn’t get along with teammates, came into camp wildly out of shape, and has been ridiculed constantly by his coach hasn’t scored a goal in a manned net since November. What’s even more impossible is the fact Flyers fans who constantly try to say, “Crosby sucks,” are defending this bum.
Ryan Whitney responded to this tweet with some excellent sarcasm. His tweet includes talking points those braindead idiots in Philadelphia have actually used…
Celebrini is the closest player to prime Crosby that I have ever seen. This is ironic because Flyers fans are defending Michkov, saying he’s good, and he’s as good as Celebrini. This would also likely mean that they know in the back of their minds that Crosby is the greatest hockey player they have ever seen. They go to sleep every single night hoping and praying that Michkov could be the caliber of player that Crosby, or Celebrini, happens to be.
They will get a good look at what actual hockey royalty looks like tomorrow night when the Flyers face off against Crosby. Sid for the first time this season has gone three straight games without a point. There is nothing, outside of winning Cups and gold medals, that Crosby loves to do more than to shit on the team in Eastern Pennsylvania. I highly doubt that Sid’s pointless streak will continue after Thursday night. The Penguins desperately need to win this game; it’s the biggest game of the season thus far. Every single player on the ice is aware of the potential stakes of this game, but Sidney Crosby is head and shoulders better than everyone else playing. Will it be vintage four-point night for Sid? Maybe. Could it simply be Sid ripping their hearts out in the dying moments of the game? History supports this idea. Whatever the case may be, Sidney Crosby will once again prove all those morons who say he sucks wrong. He will do it, as he always has, as their fat bust of a “savior” can’t catch the 38-year-old on a backcheck. He did it a month ago and he is sure to do it again tomorrow.
Some Penguins ideas as trade chatter has started to heat up. Karlsson is hurt, the Penguins have a shitload of cap space. Acquire Dougie Hamilton, at his full cap hit from New Jersey. In this scenario, the Devils would be paying a price to sell him off. Use whatever you get, plus whatever other assets, to get Alexis Lafreniere. Hamilton could then be traded to Dallas, or Toronto, with some retention possibly to acquire back the assets you lost in the Lafreniere trade. Much like Michkov, Lafreniere has been a bust. However, he has flashed brilliance at times, and I guarantee he would flourish away from New York and beside Sidney Crosby. He fits the Dubas age profile and the type of guy Dubas has been acquiring. The Rangers need a shakeup. The Devils need a shakeup but need to shed salary. No one better to exploit his division rivals than Kyle Dubas. Maybe it’s extremely farfetched, and potentially stupid, but why not?
Lastly, the Flyers haven’t won a cup since 1975. Complete losers.
