The Sabres vs Canadiens Game 7 is tonight in Buffalo, and the road to get here included one of the wildest 48-hour swings of the entire playoffs.. The game was crazy as they beat Dobes many times in the first period but were unable to hold any lead. Eventually the goals stopped coming for Buffalo, but not for Montreal. It seemed like all hope was lost in Buffalo after that demoralizing loss. The way the first period went on Saturday didn’t necessarily help provide any hope either. The Sabres scored 30 seconds into the game thanks to Rasmus Dahlin.
The Habs scored three goals on their next three shots, their first three shots of the game, which is where the hope seemed to completely fade for the Buffalo faithful.
Luckily, Buffalo is a resilient bunch and erupted to score 7 more goals, allowing none, to win game 6 and set the stage for a game 7 tonight. I am so excited for this game 7, game 7s always rock, but these two teams could make for an all-time classic game 7. The hockey in this series has been incredibly fast, at times wild, and overall, extremely entertaining. Buffalo will be the home team tonight and I think everyone is aware that the crowd there is going to be absolutely nuts. Let’s just hope ESPN doesn’t decrease the levels on the crowd noise (my biggest gripe with the playoffs so far).
It’s so hard to predict who wins tonight. Both teams have been road warriors which definitely gives Montreal an advantage. However, the Sabres might have broken Dobes which could go a long way tonight. The two biggest game breakers would be each team’s number 1 defensemen, Lane Hutson and Rasmus Dahlin. The top goal scorers somewhat cancel each other out too as Thompson and/or Caulfield could break the game open or bring their team back. It’s an incredibly even matchup that’s bound to be incredibly entertaining. If I were making a prediction, which I am, I’d pick Buffalo 4 Montreal 3 in 2OT. Just feed me a classic, we need it, and the world needs it.
NHL Tidbits
Macklin Celebrini is wearing the C over Sidney Crosby at the World Championships. At first, I was ready to write an entire hit piece on Macklin, but I have now gathered my emotions and came up with a different perspective. First, Macklin apparently was adamant that Sid takes the C. Being the real captain of Canada, Crosby declined because Macklin was already announced. Despite wearing an A, Crosby is the real captain of any team he laces up for, and everyone knows that.
My take on this situation is that eventually Sid will be replaced as captain of Canada (for real). Why not have Sid prime Celebrini for that passing of the torch? There’s no one else who’s Canadian that really deserves the title. Macklin is a mini-Crosby and maybe with the tutelage of Sid, he can become the next Crosby. Becoming the next Sid means becoming a serial winner, which is something the other guy who might be in line for the C cannot seem to do. So, I say that if Sid is passing the torch he should pass it to Celebrini because Celebrini is young enough to not turn into a colossal loser like Connor McDavid, as long as Sid teaches him the way.
There was some more Crosby related news out of Philadelphia. Some idiots who’s probably tweaking in Kensington, Philadelphia right now decided to take time out of their day to paint Crosby related imagery on the ice at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
RIP Bozo? The dude who has terrorized your franchise for twenty years? These people have the brains of a worm. They also all probably have worms from living on the streets and doing Ritalin. Mocking Crosby for diving after being hit in the eye by noted rat Garnett Hathaway is all those idiots can do. They are an obsessed bunch of weirdos who might secretly love Sid. Maybe they should have shifted their attention more towards Carolina and they might still be playing hockey, but nope they continued to think about Pittsburgh. They beat us fair and square, but we will always dominate their headspace. We play for cups and they play to hope to beat us in the first round, we are not the same.
Vegas and Colorado will start the Western Conference Finals on Wednesday night. I think everyone assumes Colorado will run them over. I’m not so sure about that to be honest. Vegas is playing some great hockey, and they have routinely beat the Avs in the playoffs. I would still predict Colorado to win the series in 6 games, but I don’t think it’s going to be a shit kicking like we have seen so far from Colorado. Also, Mitch Marner is on another planet right now. The goal he scored the other night against Anaheim might have been the best goal ever scored in the playoffs. Remember when all those idiots in Toronto said this guy couldn’t play in the playoffs? Yeah, Mitch is proving them all wrong, maybe the Leafs (and their fans) just suck.
We are itching closer to the Cup final and that means we are itching closer to the draft. Rumors are sure to pop up this week about what teams are planning to do, I will likely cover those on Wednesday. Until then, enjoy game 7 tonight between Buffalo and Montreal.
