A Master Class in Dysfunction, Thanks Woody Johnson

A Master Class in Dysfunction, Thanks Woody Johnson

Just 72 hours after recording their first win of the 2025 season, Woody Johnson and the New York Jets announce that they’re raising season ticket prices for the 2026 season. Times must be tough for the Johnson family as they decided one win was enough to justify raising ticket prices going into next year. For an organization that’s only won about 37% of its games (93-157) since their last post season appearance in 2010, they should be doing everything they can to ingratiate themselves to the fans that have continued to stick by them through these dark times. Raising ticket prices is not the answer…

I will admit that this headline is a little misleading, according to a Jets spokesperson this price increase is only affecting about 56% of the stadium. Most of the “affordable” seats in the upper deck and endzones aren’t seeing a price increase at all, and that most seats that are increasing are only increasing about $5-10 per ticket per game. The Jets spokesperson further tried to justify this price increase by stating that the team’s 9th home game next year is the reason why season ticket holders will be paying more. This is completely false, the Jets will have 8 true home games this year and again will have 8 true home games next year. The only additional home game will be a preseason game, which we all know is completely meaningless.

Listen I totally understand that this is a business, I know that the bottomline is all that matters and to a degree I understand that the economics at play dictate prices increasing over time. But Woody Johnson needs to take a class in PR, for once he needs to take a look in the mirror and understand that his actions continue to make this team look like the laughing stock of the league. Now is not the time for this story to be making headlines, just let us enjoy one damn week where we can bask in the fact that we won a game. A week where we as fans don’t have to stay off the internet to avoid the slew of talking heads criticizing or making jokes at our expense, a week of pure bliss. But low and behold it’s 9am on a Wednesday we’re back in the media spin cycle showing everyone how we truly are the most dysfunctional team in the league.

Just last week Woody Johnson weirdly and bluntly called out Justin Fields for his poor play thus far this season. And sure, maybe he has a point. We can agree that Justin Fields has been underwhelming at best to start the year, but your team owner just flat out cannot be making public statements degrading their players like that. There’s already so much outside noise that surrounds this team and their performance on the field, the last thing we need is an out of touch owner piling on. Have some accountability Woody! In 25 years of underwhelming and underachieving, there’s only one common denominator, YOU.

Woody Johnson seems to do this every year, and maybe this week it finally worked out for him. Maybe his comments united the team, maybe it provided some extra motivation to prove him wrong. But there’s no doubt that his constant interference negatively impacts the team year in and year out. Just check out what Justin Fields had to say in his post game press conference after the Jets victory over the Bengals on Sunday.

Yes, there seems to be more going on in Justin Fields’ life than just his play on the field. And sure he discounted Woody’s comments as “outside noise”, but how do you expect to bring in free agents when you have an owner who often openly criticizes his players??

Then we have this clip coming out this week of Jordan Travis telling how Woody Johnson treated him as Travis attempted to return from an injury he suffered in his last game in college that eventually caused him to medically retire at 24 before ever playing in a NFL game. Honestly this seems like par for course based on everything I know about Woody Johnson

It’s times like this that all I can do is emphasize what this kid said following the Jets week 7 loss to the Panthers. I think he summed it up well… PAIN.

Sell the team Woody
