Grant Union\’s Big Mistake: How Confidence Became a Crushing Loss

You\’ve gotta love a little confidence. There\’s nothing better than a team that believes in themselves, right? But there’s a thin line between confidence and a complete lack of situational awareness. Grant Union High School learned that the hard way. They were set to face Folsom on ESPN, and before the game even started, they were already trying to get in their opponents\’ heads. The result? A penalty before the kickoff. And that was just the beginning.

It\’s one thing to get pumped up and talk some trash, but you\’d better be able to back it up. Unfortunately for Grant Union, they couldn\’t. Folsom absolutely crushed them, with the final score a brutal 51-13. Folsom\’s quarterback, a BYU commit, had a monster game, going 31 for 37 with 400 passing yards and 5 touchdowns. Yikes. Talk about a reality check. This is the same type of energy as when USC came out of the tunnel week one against Alabama and got blown out 52-6.

As a coach, if your players are doing something like that and then getting absolutely smoked, you\’d have to bench them. The lesson here is simple: if you\’re going to try and get inside your opponent\’s head, you can\’t get crushed in the process. Otherwise, you\’re not just taking a loss; you\’re becoming a meme. And nobody wants to be a meme.
