Are the Rangers done for the year? Igor Shesterkin suffered a season-ending injury against Washington on Friday. The Rangers are already without backup goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, leaving Dylan Garand to backstop them.
Garand has five whole games of NHL experience, though he seems decent enough. The issue is, the Rangers roster simply isnโt great. To make the playoffs, they needed to be carried by an all-world goaltender, which Shesterkin is and Garand is not.
Unless they make some wild decision to acquire Connor Hellebuyck (they wonโt), there is simply no hope for them.
The bigger question now becomes: Is Sergei Murashov the best Russian goalie left in the league?
