Throughout the week, many began to proclaim the Penguins dead. They may have beaten the Canadiens, but they blew a 5-1 lead. Then came two god-awful performances against Washington and Columbus. Sidney Crosby is goalless and only has two points so far this season. Everything seemed awful minus the play of the goaltenders.
Saturday night rolls around, the Stars are rested, and the Penguins couldn’t be in a worse spot. It seemed like a beating was about to commence. Instead? The Penguins played connected, sound, enjoyable hockey. They gave up little in terms of Grade A chances and played hard throughout.
Dallas tied it late and ultimately sent it to OT, but the Penguins, surprisingly, prevailed in a shootout. The week ends with the Penguins beating one of the best teams in the league. Who woulda thought?
Maybe these old dudes arenโt dead just yet.
