For a third straight game, the Pittsburgh Penguins were terrible. Coincidentally, Sidney Crosby does not have a point in any of those games. It’s tough for a train to move when its conductor is still in the station.
Despite being out of sorts, the Penguins have been in every game thanks to their goaltenders. No goaltending performance was better than Sergei Murashov’s last night. He made 43 saves to help send the game to a shootout. Good for the kid.
Everyone else needs to take a look in the mirror because they are playing some disgustingly bad hockey right now. While I will never be critical of Sid, he needs to start scoring. I will be critical of Letang. He needs to retire. Malkin has actually looked inspired and good, so we’ll take that.
If the Penguins keep up that level of play tonight against Dallas, they may lose by double digits. If they keep up this effort level all season, they might finally have a top-five pick to choose from.
