I am in a dangerous situation. I have spoken about the Pens being back. However, I think they are more than back… they can go on a run. No one, except Colorado, scares me. I think all of America, and Canada, would have predicated a 6-2 win last night in Oilers vs. Penguins. Those that made such a prediction would have assumed it would be Oilers racking up goals. Right score, wrong winning team with that predicition. The Penguins blitz the Oilers scoring 3 goals in 37 seconds within the first five minutes of the game and never looked back.
That win made me as bullish as I have been on anything since Gamestop in 2020-2021. There was no reason to win that game. They were on the second game of a back-to-back. They won their first two games in the road trip. The Penguins play terribly against the Oilers. The Oilers likely had a lot of money on the board for Jarry to get a victory versus his old squad. Much like their team captain does consistently, Jarry fell flat on his face. In fact, he literally fell flat on his face on two separate breakaways.
The second breakaway had McLoser angry at his team. Maybe buddy, largely proclaimed to be the fastest player in the sport, should have hustled back and caught up to 40-year-old who’s had two significant knee surgeries.
He has losing so deeply ingrained into his DNA that he quit on the play and quit on his team. Canada shouldn’t even put a letter on this guy’s jersey next month. McDavid has the leadership of a buck on the side of a highway. He will lead you directly into oncoming traffic. He was exposed as a fraud, once again. There is no world in which McDavid should be unable to catch Malkin on a breakaway from the far blue line. He was chasing another point and essentially threw a hissy fit when the puck wasn’t served on a platter for him. Selfish. Disgusting.
I choose to focus my energy on winners. Sidney Crosby comes to mind. Twenty-Seven goals, thirty-eight years old. Insanity what this guy is doing, yet again.
The consistency and will to win that exudes from number 87 is only rivaled by Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, and Tom Brady. Doesn’t matter if the game is meaningless or the Stanley Cup Final, he will show up. The guys in the room see it, they talk about it, and it’s one of the biggest factors that has me believing this team has the potential for more than simply making the playoffs.
If you think about the Eastern conference, who could definitively beat the Penguins in playoffs? I think the closest team would be Tampa, but we have seen the Penguins ability to hang in with that team numerous times so far this season. Am I worried about Montreal or Detroit? No. The experience of the big three alone could carry them over either of those teams. Same would apply to Buffalo. The Islanders in the first round would be scary as we historically get shellshocked by the fishermen in the playoffs, but the Penguins are a better team. Washington obviously doesn’t scare me; we are their boogeyman. Florida would be less than ideal, but I don’t think they’re making it. Toronto hahahahahahahahahaaha no one worries about them, complete jokes. Philly isn’t making it, but if they do, please let us play them just to see how many points Crosby would shove down their throats. Again, I am very fearful for my mental health given the Penguins play since Christmas, last night’s win only exacerbated that feeling.
We wrote yesterday that Dubas should win GM of the year. We didn’t mention that he hired Dan Muse. Muse himself should get consideration for coach of the year. They took their lumps in December. They went on holiday and returned a different team; Muse deserves a significant amount of credit for the turn around. Unlike earlier in the year, the team is playing well, sometimes great, defense. He has removed a lot of self-inflicted errors that have plagued this team for the last few seasons. Hockey is a wildly chaotic game so mistakes will always happen. Muse has coached this team well enough to drastically cut down on those mistakes. Granted, I would vote for Tampa’s Jon Cooper for coach of the year mostly out of the sheer audacity that he has never won one, but Muse deserves a lot of credit for the job he has done this season.
Lastly, does Egor Chinakov have the best wrist shot in the NHL? I don’t know what Russian gas he has been sipping on, but my god is his shot incredible. He once had a wrist shot clocked at 103mph. Not only is his shot insane, but he also has the release and accuracy to appropriately utilize his weapon. The goal in Calgary defied hockey physics. He was falling away from the net, off balanced, and rifled the puck essentially through Dustin Wolf. Last night against the Oilers the puck zipped past Jarry and into, and out of, the net faster than anyone could react. He has excellent speed as well. The chemistry with Geno is clearly there. What a steal by Dubas, what the hell was Columbus thinking? Dubas masterclass, what else is new.
Lastly, part two. The Penguins won the Jarry trade. By a lot. Jarry, as shown last night, will only help put fuel on the fire that is McDavid being a loser, fraud, and a complete joke. Dubas masterclass.
