I’ve seen insane sports decisions, but LeBron James just walked away from real money to make basically nothing with the Philadelphia 76ers, and at 41 years old, you don’t do that unless something bigger than basketball is going on.
He was making something like $50 million a year with the Lakers. He just signed for $8 million, TOTAL, over 2 years, per ESPN. And by his own account he thought about retiring instead, was pretty damn sure he’d played his last game, and needed time to decide if he still loved this enough to keep going.
He decided he did. So he’s going to Philly.
Some men buy a motorcycle at 41… LeBron joined the Sixers.
He’s calling this his “last decision.” The original Decision got him an hour-long ESPN special. This one just got him a mirror and an honest conversation.
Does a guy with $50 million reasons to coast actually have one more real run in him? I don’t know. But I want to watch him find out.
