USA Today went full heel on Caitlin Clark this week, and I don’t think they know how to work a match.
Tuesday, ESPN cleans out ten on-air names. Ryan Clark, Cam Newton, Karl Ravech after 33 years there. Same week they’re reportedly trying to hand Pat McAfee $60 million a year, per The Athletic, to keep yelling. So the lesson every media company in America got handed on the same Tuesday is that being loud is the only job that’s safe.
Wednesday, USA Today runs a column saying Caitlin Clark’s flopping has gotten dangerous, and brings up the lynching of Emmett Till to get there. Friday, they post that she skipped the Orange Carpet to go get her hair done, when she was home in Des Moines hosting an event for her own foundation. They got Community Noted on their own post.
Two days apart. Nobody has a week like that by accident.
And you know what USA Today said when the whole sports world came for that column? That it’s… clearly labeled Opinion. Then they told Front Office Sports they wouldn’t be commenting further. That’s the whole damn defense. It says OPINION at the top, so it counts.
Alright. Then everything I say from here is labeled opinion. Bob Nutting bought the Pirates with a coupon. Opinion. Michigan cheated their way to a national title. Opinion.
