The Atlanta Dream have now been to FOUR WNBA Finals and have ZERO championships. At this point, somebody needs to check if the Atlanta Falcons are sharing their playbook.
And this one might hurt the most because Atlanta actually had a chance to win it all in Game 7. They were leading Golden State at halftime, had the championship within reach, and then Gabby Williams decided she was going to personally ruin their entire season.
Williams scored 28 points in the second half alone, finishing with 30 as the Valkyries won 68-63. That’s a ridiculous performance in a winner-take-all game.
And Angel Reese? Eight points and 12 rebounds. This is the same woman who dropped 30 and 16 earlier in the Finals, but with a championship on the line, Golden State made sure she wasn’t taking over anything.
I know Reese is going to get absolutely COOKED online for this, and eight points in Game 7 isn’t going to help her case. But she also helped get Atlanta to this point. Both things can be true.
Meanwhile, the Golden State Valkyries have existed for TWO SEASONS and already have a championship. Atlanta has been trying since 2008.
Some franchises spend decades chasing a title. Apparently Golden State just needed to fill out the expansion paperwork.
