The Atlanta Dream almost had to play a WNBA FINALS game in an arena that holds 3,500 people because State Farm Arena had a concert booked.. then 17,000 fans showed up and watched them beat Golden State by TWENTY-SIX POINTS!
Think about how many fans almost got shut out of this game! And what’s even funnier is that Atlanta has dealt with this before. The last time the Dream made the Finals in 2013, they couldn’t use the Hawks’ arena because of DISNEY ON ICE.
I respect Disney on Ice, but how many times does this franchise have to reach the championship before somebody makes sure they can actually use the damn building?!
Thankfully, the WNBA and Hawks worked around the scheduling conflicts, moved Game 3 up a day, and Atlanta sold out State Farm Arena.
And the Dream gave those fans a SHOW. Angel Reese followed up her 30-point, 16-rebound performance in Game 2 with another 21 points, 12 rebounds, and TWO made threes. Atlanta smoked the Valkyries 97-71 and now leads the series 2-1.
The Dream are already moving into State Farm Arena full-time next season, and tonight was a pretty great reminder of why. They’re TWO wins away from their first championship, and something tells me a 3,500-seat arena wasn’t going to cut it for this city anymore.
