Michelle Beadle called Pat McAfee “soft” over this entire Utah situation, and I genuinely don’t know how you can disagree with her.
The University of Utah posted a video of college students doing impressions of Pat ahead of College GameDay. One kid called him corny, another basically told him to KEEP HIS SHIRT ON. Pretty standard college kid shit. Pat apparently didn’t appreciate the university posting the video, which is fine. He’s allowed to feel however he wants about it. But then he started bringing up Charlie Kirk’s assassination at Utah Valley University and questioning whether Utah was putting him in danger by giving people reasons to hate him.
Come on, man.. WHAT ARE WE DOING?
I’m not saying Pat can’t have legitimate safety concerns. He’s dealt with actual death threats, and those are serious. But if a bunch of college kids telling you to keep your shirt on makes you start worrying about getting assassinated because you’re in the same STATE where Charlie Kirk was killed, I think there’s something deeper going on that you might need to work through. Maybe stepping away from the big screen for a little while wouldn’t be the worst idea.
This is a guy who has built his entire career on being loud, talking shit, and pushing people’s buttons. It’s part of why he’s so successful, and I actually enjoy a lot of his content. But you’ve gotta be able to take a little shit back! These kids weren’t threatening him. They were making fun of his television personality, the same personality that has made him millions of dollars.
If being called corny by a couple of college students is enough to make you never want to return to an entire university, maybe Michelle Beadle has a point.
