Brewers Are Up 3-0 on the Dodgers, and MLB Still Needs a Salary Cap AND Floor

Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers, MLB, MLB Salary Cap, MLB Playoffs, Bob Nutting, NLCS

The Milwaukee Brewers are UP 3-0 on the Dodgers! Jake Bauers just battled Blake Snell for 11 pitches before taking him deep, and Milwaukee is ONE win away from its first World Series since 1982.

And while they’re doing all this with less than HALF of LA’s payroll, Jeff Passan reports that MLB owners still want a salary cap AND floor, regardless of who wins the World Series.

GOOD!

Because I already know people are gonna point at the Brewers and say, “See? You don’t need a salary cap!” Sure, Milwaukee can build a wagon without spending like the Dodgers. That doesn’t mean every small-market team should need an A+ front office just to keep up with teams that can spend their way out of mistakes.

And I want that salary FLOOR just as badly as the cap. If you’re going to tell the Dodgers they can’t spend $340 million, you better tell Bob Nutting and the other cheap owners they have to open their wallets too!

Milwaukee winning a World Series would be AWESOME. But one small-market team getting everything right doesn’t mean baseball’s financial system is perfect.. and I don’t want a salary cap that just gives billionaires an excuse to spend less.
