The Chicago Bears are 5-2, and their OFFENSE might be the biggest reason to take them seriously.. I’m not sure Bears fans are emotionally prepared for this.
Chicago just beat a Patriots team that had won three straight, 30-24, and Caleb Williams threw for 308 yards. Luther Burden went for 130, and suddenly the Bears have an offense with multiple guys who can hurt you. For YEARS, Chicago’s offensive game plan felt like it was basically just trying not to screw up whatever the defense was doing. Now they’re putting up 30 points on good teams!
And what’s impressive is that Caleb missed THREE games, the Bears went 2-1 without him, and he’s come back throwing for 300 yards in consecutive games. Ben Johnson has apparently done the unthinkable in Chicago.. built an offense where the quarterback and his weapons actually make each other better.
Now, they’re not perfect. Drake Maye just threw for 321 yards against that defense, and the touchdown Chicago gave up before halftime was an absolute disaster.
But I’m done treating the Bears like some cute early-season story. I’m not ready to call them Super Bowl contenders, but they’re absolutely a team that can make somebody’s January miserable.
Imagine fighting all season to make the playoffs and your reward is facing a Chicago Bears team with an actual quarterback and a competent offense. That’s a sentence we haven’t been able to say very often!
