Angel Reese is ONE win away from the WNBA Finals, and the people who’ve spent two years investigating her rebounds like a federal crime scene are gonna have a HELL of a time with this one.
Atlanta just beat New York 101-98 in overtime to take a 2-0 lead in the semifinals. Reese finished with 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting, scored six in overtime and knocked down FOUR huge free throws late in regulation and overtime. Those are the exact moments people have been demanding she show up for!
And Atlanta did this WITHOUT its leading scorer, Allisha Gray. Jordin Canada matched Reese with 23 points and added eight assists, Naz Hillmon hit the go-ahead basket in overtime, and Breanna Stewart dropping 35 for New York STILL wasn’t enough.
I actually think that’s what makes this so interesting. Reese doesn’t have to be the entire Atlanta Dream. She’s part of a team that’s finding different ways to win, and when they needed her to make plays with the game on the line, she delivered.
For all the conversations about whether her stats translate to winning basketball.. we’re watching her contribute to one of the biggest playoff runs of her career.
Somebody is absolutely going to find a way to call those four free throws stat padding, too. I almost want to see the math.
