BYU beat No. 2 Notre Dame last week, climbed all the way to No. 2 themselves.. and immediately lost to a 3-3 UCF team. That Notre Dame hangover hit them HARD!
Last Saturday was the kind of night BYU fans will talk about for years. College GameDay in Provo, a 28-24 win over Notre Dame, and suddenly everybody’s talking about the Cougars as a legitimate national championship contender.
Seven days later? They’re in Orlando watching UCF put up 463 yards of offense and beat them 39-31 in DOUBLE OVERTIME!
And BYU had chances to escape! They blocked a potential game-winning field goal to force overtime, scored a touchdown on their first possession, and then watched UCF answer with a touchdown on its VERY FIRST PLAY.
You have to give UCF credit, too. They came into this game 3-3 and just earned their first win over a top-five team in program history. Hell of a win for Scott Frost and the Knights!
But man.. THIS is why the game after a massive upset can be so dangerous. BYU went from celebrating one of the biggest wins in school history to watching UCF fans storm the field and tear down a goalpost because they beat THEM.
College football will humble your ass in a hurry.
