Caitlin Clark says re-signing Kelsey Mitchell should be the Indiana Fever’s NUMBER ONE offseason priority.. meanwhile, some people claiming to support Clark are going after the very teammate she wants to keep. Make that make sense.
Mitchell admitted during her exit interview that the hateful messages and attention that come with playing alongside Clark have made being in Indiana difficult at times. This is a four-time All-Star who just averaged nearly 25 points a game, and she’s talking about how hard it can be to show up and play for people who might not even like her.
Clark didn’t dance around it either. “There’s nobody I would want to share the backcourt with other than her.” She wants Mitchell back, hopes they can play together for the rest of their careers, and called out people using her name to spread racism and hate.
I mean, these two have been one hell of a backcourt! Clark is one of the best playmakers in basketball, Mitchell just broke the WNBA single-season scoring record, and BOTH have spoken about how much they enjoy playing together. Yet somehow there are people who claim to love Clark making life miserable for the player she wants beside her.
You can criticize Mitchell’s game, argue about contracts, question roster decisions.. that’s sports. But sending hateful messages to somebody your favorite player clearly respects and wants to keep around? Who exactly do you think you’re helping?
Mitchell hasn’t decided whether she’s staying in Indiana. You’d think the people who want to see Caitlin Clark succeed would be doing everything they could to make one of her favorite teammates WANT to stay.
