The Indianapolis Colts just held a garage sale for two of their best players.. and the return is pretty damn underwhelming.
Quenton Nelson, an EIGHT-TIME Pro Bowler, is headed to Seattle for a third and fifth-round pick. DeForest Buckner, a three-time Pro Bowler, is going back to San Francisco for a FOURTH.
That’s it. Three draft picks, none higher than the third round.
Now listen, I understand both guys are in the final year of their contracts. The Colts are 2-5, they’ve already fired their GM, and getting something back for players who might leave in free agency makes sense.
But imagine being a Colts fan watching this happen. Two of the most recognizable players on your team are leaving, and you’re basically hoping those picks turn into somebody half as good.
And the situation gets even worse when you remember what Indianapolis did LAST YEAR.
They traded TWO first-round picks and Adonai Mitchell to the Jets for Sauce Gardner because they thought they were ready to compete.
One of those picks is their 2027 first-rounder.
So now the Colts are entering a rebuild, they don’t even have their own first-round pick next year, and every game they lose potentially makes that pick MORE valuable for the Jets!
Seattle and San Francisco are getting better for a playoff push. Jets fans are probably celebrating every Colts loss like it’s a win.
Meanwhile, Indianapolis fans are watching their best players leave and hoping somebody can find a future All-Pro in the fourth round.
That’s a pretty miserable place to be as a fan.
