The Brewers are headed BACK to the NLCS, and somebody needs to investigate what Manny Machado did to the center-field wall at Petco Park.. because that thing has had a personal problem with him for NINE YEARS!
Milwaukee beat San Diego 3-1 to advance, but in the eighth inning Machado absolutely CRUSHED a ball 406 feet to center with Fernando Tatis Jr. on first. That ball is a home run in 19 MLB ballparks. At Petco? Garrett Mitchell goes up at the wall and makes an UNBELIEVABLE catch to preserve the Brewers’ two-run lead.
Now get this.. back in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, Machado was playing for the Dominican Republic against Team USA in the SAME BALLPARK. His own Orioles teammate, Adam Jones, made one of the greatest catches in WBC history to rob him of a home run in nearly the exact same spot! Team USA went on to eliminate the Dominican Republic.
And apparently twice wasn’t enough because Stuart Fairchild robbed Machado of ANOTHER homer at Petco in 2024. THREE different outfielders have done this to the poor guy!
In 2017, Machado actually tipped his cap to Jones out of respect. Tonight, he stood there with both hands on his helmet in disbelief. HAHAHA I mean how many times can a guy be expected to appreciate great defense when he’s the one getting robbed?!
The Brewers are moving on to face the Dodgers for the second straight NLCS.. and Manny Machado might want to start aiming for a different part of the ballpark.
