The Milwaukee Brewers are WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS for the first time in franchise history.. and I absolutely LOVE this for Milwaukee!
Not their first championship in a while. Their FIRST. There’s no older generation of Brewers fans telling the younger ones about the last title because there has NEVER been one!
They hadn’t even been to the World Series since 1982. Last year, the Dodgers swept them out of the NLCS. This year? Milwaukee came right back, swept the two-time defending champions, and finished the job against Tampa Bay.
And they certainly made their fans sweat for it. They were THREE OUTS away from winning it all last night before the Rays walked them off in the 12th inning. Imagine waiting your entire life for a championship, getting that close, and having to go to bed after THAT.
I also can’t help thinking about Bob Uecker. The man spent more than 50 years calling Brewers baseball and never got to call a World Series championship. His family even put out a message before the Series about how badly they wished he could be here for this.
Man, I wish we could’ve heard that final call.
But for everybody in Milwaukee who spent decades waiting for this moment.. enjoy every damn second of it. You’ve finally got a championship to call your own.
