College Football Treats Bowl Games Like Consolation Prizes, Then Complains About a 24-Team Playoff

College Football, College Football Playoff, CFP Expansion, Bowl Games, NCAA Football

College football has teams throwing hissy fits when they miss the Playoff, players opting out of bowl games, and entire fanbases acting like the season is over.. but expanding the College Football Playoff to 24 teams is somehow BAD for the sport?!

I genuinely don’t understand this argument.

We’ve spent years watching bowl games turn into consolation prizes for teams that wanted to be somewhere else. Now there’s a proposal that gives MORE schools an opportunity to actually play for a national championship, and people are acting like we’re destroying college football?

Think about the games we’d get! You’d have schools playing postseason matchups we’ve rarely, if ever, seen before. Some lower seed gets hot, knocks off a powerhouse, and suddenly the entire bracket is a mess. THAT is the kind of chaos that makes college football awesome!

And under the reported format, the first TWO rounds would be played on campus. Imagine the atmosphere of a December playoff game at Beaver Stadium, Kinnick, or some SEC stadium with a visiting team’s entire season on the line!

People keep saying the regular season won’t matter anymore.. WHY? Teams would still be fighting for first-round byes, better seeds, and home-field advantage. Winning games would still have very real rewards.

I don’t need all 24 teams to be legitimate national championship favorites to want to watch them compete. Give me more meaningful postseason football, more schools with something to play for, and more chances for an upset.

I’m struggling to see how any of that is supposed to be terrible for college football.
